In 2021 the Louisburg Lions Club partnered with Louisburg Scout Troop to allow the Scouts to collect community service hours.  The Scouts have been integrally helpful with various fundraisers like the Cider Fest and the annual Loiusburg Lions Club Car Show.

When the Louisburg Lions Club heard about a Trex recycling project that allowed community members to donate plastic materials to be recycled into composite benches they knew this was a project they would like to accomplish.  Mark Meigs, a scout from Troop 101 had been looking for an Eagle Scout project that would benefit the community.   When he heard that the Lions Club was wanting to do a recycling project Mark knew this was the project he had been looking for.  Mark presented his goal to help with the recycling effort to the Lions Club at one of their meetings which was met with unanimous approval.   He then set up 3 bins at various locations in the community for patrons to donate the plastic.  Mark then emptied the bins on a weekly basis.  The goal was to collect 500 lbs of recylclable materials over a 6 month period, not only did Mark achieve this goal, he collected above the amount with a grand total of 1081 lbs.   Mark stated that he was overwhelmed by the community’s response in donating plastic and that he was thrilled that this recycling effort kept 1081 lbs of plastic out of our local stream, rivers and landfills.

The composite bench was then delivered and donated to the Louisburg Senior Center making the community recycling goal for the Louisburg Lions Club a reality.
